How we typically think about success:
- number of reports
- salary
- title
Better ways to gauge it:
- positive culture influence
- market influence
- revenue impact
Some of the best leaders I know have no direct reports and unassuming titles.
And yet, they are sought after by execs as a sounding board for the direction of the company.
Don’t settle for vanity metrics to determine your value to the business.
Play the long game, make a material impact, and build influence in a market you enjoy.
Over time you will have everything you want and more. The world is hungry for more leaders.
How else should we be measuring our success?
